HOME BUYERS ONLINE SEMINAR
Everything you should know about buying a home
Remind them
People will most likely remember they signed up for the Home Buyers Online Seminar,
but they might have forgotten your name. Keep the memory fresh by always inserting
a sentence in your mailings like: “You are receiving this e-mail because you subscribed
to the Home Buyers Online Seminar”.
Do not forget permission
Do not annoy people by sending them messages that are not directly related to the
home buying process and services. If they subscribed to the Home Buyers Online Seminar,
that does not mean they expressed to receive your newsletter as well.
Check Spam Laws in your own jurisdiction
Each State and Province has their own laws regarding Spam. Check them out carefully
to avoid getting in trouble. Assuming you do not interfere with the headings of your
e-mails, our No-Spam Policy is in compliance with the CAN-SPAM acts.
Use a professional e-mail address
Do not send commercial e-mails with a free e-mail account, but use one of your professional
domain-name related addresses instead. Sending business e-mail with a free account
is like putting the number of the pay-phone in the corner laundromat on your business-cards.
Most people will wonder why you hide your domain account to begin with.
Common Sense
In the end, it is really common sense. Take off your marketing hat and put yourself
in your recipient’s shoes.
At the Home Buyers Online Seminar we take pride in guaranteeing our visitors a Spam-free
environment. That is why we require new accounts to agree to our No-Spam Policy.
Our No-Spam Policy was not created to make e-mail marketing more difficult for you.
On the contrary. It protects you against legal action (because sending Spam is a
violation of the law). It also helps creating a much better mailing list (only consisting
of people really interested in your services), and it contributes to a much higher
conversion rate (people get so much real estate and mortgage related Spam, they actually
appreciate it when they met an agent who do not harass them with unsolicited commercial
messages).
“Spam is commercial e-mail you send to someone who has not given you their direct
permission to contact them on the topic of the e-mail.”
Permission
Basically, you can only ever e-mail anyone who has clearly given you permission to
e-mail them specifically about the subject you are contacting them about.
That is why we have included an opt-in checkbox on our registration forms. This checkbox
is not checked by default, hence the person completing the form must willingly select
the checkbox to indicate they want to hear from you. If they do not wish to select
the checkbox, they cannot register and will not receive the download and login information.
Managing e-mail list
Tell recipients how to opt out of receiving future e-mail from you. Each message
must include a clear and conspicuous explanation of how the recipient can opts out
of getting e-mail from you in the future.
Honor opt-out requests promptly. You must honor a recipient’s opt-out request within
ten business days.
What content MUST be included in your e-mails?
Every e-mail you send must include the following:
- An unsubscribe link and/or an unsubscribe e-mail address. Once they unsubscribe,
you can never email them again.
- Your name and physical address (of your brokerage).
- A subject line that accurately reflect the content of the message.
What happens if someone ignores our No-Spam Policy?
Violations of our No-Spam Policy reflect badly on our website and all our accounts,
and hence will not be tolerated. If we do discover that someone is e-mailing people
without their permission, we will terminate their account with the Home Buyers Online
Seminar immediately without restitution of fees paid.
